Been a lot of wind this November–do we always say that? Or do we just forget what it was like last November? Some people think we’ve had more wind this year, some think we had more last. Regardless: it’s been breezy. And a common saying down in Point Judith, one I hear over and over again is — “More wind coming.”
Here are few clips from this November I took off the pilot boat. These are all from Block Island Sound. The first clip was a strong gale and we were running back to Point Judith hugging the beach, catching all the lee that we could. The second one we were out near the 2 Buoy, about three miles off Point Judith. You can see the inbound ship that we are heading for. The last clip is us heading west with an easterly swell on our port quarter. You can see the West Gap in the background of the clip. All of these are close to shore–we really couldn’t do the pilot work offshore–we’d get hammered on and the work would be dangerous, people on ladders, big steel ships, etc. But Block Island Sound can be a moody place for sure.
